Suffocated
Height: 60cm
SLA (3D printing), spray painted
Softwares used: Gravity Sketch(VR 3D Modeling), Rhinoceros 3D
As a musician, I was inspired to create a 3D printed sculpture that conveys mental suffocation caused by COVID.
Just like every other global community, musicians are fractured and isolated due to the pandemic. Musicians are unable to tour and distribute their music, and therefore can no longer subsist. Playing music together is a way of socializing, but now we are isolated.
Mainly made using Gravity sketch, a VR modeling software, the sculpture features various instruments, which represent all music communities, melted into a deformed head inspired by Greek busts. On top, I drew guitar cables to represent chaotic hair, inspired by Medusa’s, to convey distressed mentality. Below the head, there is a plate with a pair of cutleries that reflect on the challenge to subsist during the pandemic. I used blue to convey suffocation and the absence of life. Finally, the bust is scaled to a human skull, allowing audience to project themselves on to a person distressed by the pandemic.
